It rained and It poured ! but ABC’s annual Picnic was still on! 125 members of the ABC family were not going to be deterred from having fun. They arrived with their tarps, umbrellas and rain gear at the Bronte Creek Provincial Park in Oakville and made shelter “c” their spot! To their delight they were greeted with generous helpings of garam pakodas, chai and Jalebi that was being served as one arrived! It seemed like the co-ordinators Raj and Prabha had ordered the rain so that everybody could really enjoy the hot snacks.
Arrangements were extensive, with care taken by all volunteers: youth and board to see that tarps covered the shed and nobody got wet, unless they wanted to! Yes, there were many that did not mind the rain at all and participated whole heartedly in the various games organized by the Picnic Sub -committee. The children played a round of “dog and the bone” while seniors played an interesting toned down version of “pitthoo”. The men -folk of all ages participated in cricket and women played an interesting TV show version of our very own “Antakshri”.
Keeping in mind the Bollywood theme, the talented team of Mohit- Kamna, Raj – Prabha, Shashi and Arun presented a hilarious version of a skit from “Sholay” that had everyone peeling with laughter. A Ramp walk was conducted to award the prizes for Best Dressed Bollywood- inspired character from the attendees. Sangita Agarwal took home the 1st prize for her very ingenious idea of playing Vidya Balan from the movie Kahani. True to the character from the movie, She posed as a pregnant lady while not really being pregnant! and Priya Agarwal took the other prize for being Kajol from KKHH.
Hot and delicious food prepared by Brampton Sweets onsite kept everybody well fed, the extensive menu included chat papri, bhe, l gulab jamuns, chana bhatura, biryani and raita apart from the hot pakodas, chai and Jalebi. On the other hand various activities planned kept everyone entertained.
Generous support from the sponsors added not only to the menu but also made competitions worthwhile of participation. Fruits were sponsored by Shashi and Vinesh Ji and Kulfi was sponsored by Prabha and Raj. All the prizes for games were donated by Vandana and Atul and to top all of that Arun Agarwal the treasurer of ABC, made and sold the most wonderful Paan for everybody. “Paan mein Gulkand” was the fact that he did it for a very noble cause. Not only did he donate the proceeds from 100 paans that were made and sold by him to Terry Fox foundation but he matched Dollar for Dollar with his personal contribution to the foundation as well.
Agarwal Optical keeping up with their tradition of supporting the community sponsored a $100 gift card and LML mortgages sponsored 2 $25 tickets to the movies as well.
With the active participation of the community and the hard work of the co-ordinators Raj and Prabha and their sub- committee of youth volunteers, Shashi- Arun , Kamna -Mohit and Amar -Prashant, the 5 hour long movie titled ” ABC ki Rimjhim Picnic” was a super-duper blockbuster Hit! Looking Forward to the next event release by ABC! keep tuned!
